Dr. Chris Carney Review: LANAP & Bone Graft Surgery at ProSoft Periodontics Mansfield TX

Surgical Timeline

My initial consultation with Dr. Chris Carney occurred in February 2024 at ProSoft Periodontics in Mansfield, TX. Dr. Carney maintained a friendly demeanor throughout the appointment. He diagnosed a need for extensive LANAP surgery and bone graft surgery. He subsequently performed these procedures on April 30, 2024, and May 14, 2024. Crucially, prior to these surgeries, I experienced no tooth mobility, nor had my general dentist ever indicated that my teeth were loose.

Dr. Carney's laser surgery resulted in significant gum recession, exposing the roots of four teeth and molars. Following the scaling and shaping of my upper and lower jawbone, he placed bone grafts. These grafts subsequently failed and dislodged, leaving me with severe failed dental bone graft symptoms. I brought pieces of the dislodged graft material into the office on a walk-in basis. The dental assistant responded with indifference, dismissing a clear surgical complication.
During a subsequent follow-up appointment, I questioned Dr. Carney regarding the failed bone grafts. He was dismissive, unsympathetic, and refused to offer any corrective intervention for the failure. Instead, he proposed costly dental implants, offering an expensive secondary treatment plan rather than taking accountability or offering corrective care.
Following these procedures, I am now left with four loose teeth. I experience chronic pain when eating, drinking, and speaking, as airflow over the exposed roots causes severe sensitivity—a devastating LANAP laser surgery side effect that was never properly addressed.
Dr. Carney's chart note from 08/21/2024 documents the visit as:
"Pt concerned because bone fragments came out of the tissue around the #4-5 site....Advised pt the bone fragments were likely a piece of the graft that works its way out through the soft tissue."
This entry completely ignores the failed bone grafts and my ongoing, persistent pain. Dr. Carney then goes on to characterize his work in the same 08/21/2024 note:
"Very successful surgery."
In my opinion and experience, Dr. Carney exercises his clinical discretion very aggressively. During my re-examination, the discussion centered on the extensive treatment plan rather than alternative, conservative care options. For prospective patients reading Dr. Chris Carney reviews online in search of conservative dental monitoring, my experience was that the treatment approach here is highly aggressive.
I placed my trust in Dr. Carney based on his medical credentials, marketing materials, and positive online reputation. That trust was profoundly misplaced. I deeply regret seeking treatment at Dr. Carney’s dental practice (ProSoft Periodontics), which has left me with permanent physical trauma.

Reply To Dr. Carney's Rebuttal:

Dr. Carney's reply claims I left a review for the wrong periodontist. This a blatant attempt to mislead the platform. Dr. Carney and I spoke at length about my failed bone grafts. Dr. Carney confirms this timeline in his reply to my review by acknowledging that I waited a year. Furthermore, he explicitly documented his treatment in my medical records, characterizing his dental work as a 'very successful surgery' in my chart--completely ignoring the failed bone grafts and my ongoing, persistent pain.

Regarding the timing of my review: I waited to allow adequate time for my mouth to heal and to fully understand my long-term surgical outcome. Only then did I feel fully confident that my assertions regarding this poor level of care were completely warranted.
